Driving Lessons in Augusta, GA

Behind-the-wheel instruction for Augusta, Evans, Martinez and Grovetown students - and how Georgia licensing differs.

We are a short drive across the river in North Augusta, and we work with students from Augusta, Evans, Martinez and Grovetown. Behind-the-wheel instruction is the same; the licensing paperwork is where Georgia and South Carolina part company.

Read this first. Your license is issued by the state where you hold your permit. If you hold a Georgia instructional permit, you complete your licensing through the Georgia Department of Driver Services — not through the SCDMV, and not through us. We provide instruction and practice; we do not issue permits or licenses in either state.

How Georgia Licensing Works

Georgia runs a graduated program under TADRA, with the driver-education requirement commonly known as Joshua’s Law.

  • Instructional permit — age 15. Issued after passing a written knowledge test.
  • Class D provisional license — age 16. You must have held the instructional permit for at least one year and one day, completed driver education, and logged 40 hours of supervised driving including 6 at night.
  • Full Class C license — age 18, once the graduated requirements are complete.

Georgia’s driver education requirement is typically met with 30 hours of instruction plus 6 hours behind the wheel, or 40 hours of parent-taught training. Confirm the current specifics with the Georgia DDS before you plan around them — state requirements change, and the DDS is the authority, not us.

How We Help Georgia Students

What we provide is behind-the-wheel skill: the actual driving. That is useful regardless of which state issues your license.

Supervised practice that counts

Structured hours toward your 40, including night driving — with an instructor rather than an anxious parent.

Road test readiness

The maneuvers examiners score are much the same on either side of the river. We drill them until they are automatic.

City and highway confidence

Downtown Augusta traffic, Washington Road, and interstate merging — at a pace that suits the student.

Adults and nervous drivers

No minimum age at the top end. Plenty of our adult students are returning to driving after years away from it.

Where Lessons Happen

Lessons run out of North Augusta, SC — 172 Shortcut Road, by appointment. For most of Augusta and Evans that is a 10 to 20 minute drive. Call and we will work out the practical details.

If you hold a South Carolina permit rather than a Georgia one, read our guide to South Carolina licensing instead — the stages, ages and restrictions are different.
